How to Merge Layers in Procreate

How to Merge Layers in Procreate

If you want to one or more layers into one layer in Procreate, there are a few ways to do this. The first one would be a hand gesture method and the second is the “Merge Down” feature in Layer properties.

Merge Layers By Hand Gesture

One of the coolest things about Procreate is that it has a UI-friendly interface where a hand gesture can enable a command. With this in mind, you can easily merge layers by simply “scrunching” layers together. Keep in mind that the layers you are “scrunching” should already be organized for it so when you merge layers you do not accidentally merge a layer you did not want to merge.

Merge Down Tool in Procreate

You can also merge two layers together with the Merge Down feature in Layer tools. This allows you to merge another layer right below it.

  1. To access the Layer tools, open the Layer panel.

  2. Ensure the two layers you want to merge are on the top and bottom of each other.

  3. Select the top layer and click again to open the Layer tools.

  4. The Layer tools will pop up on the left side and you can click the Merge Down feature.

  5. Done! The two layers are now merged.

Hope this quick tutorial helps! Part of learning and using Procreate tools is to simply test them out. The more you know about these tools and tricks, the better you can leverage these tools to make your art in an efficient and timely manner. Like any program or platform, it is all about understanding its tools, its capabilities, as well as, its limitations. Knowing about these tools early on can help you be a more proficient digital artist.
