How to Copy and Paste in Procreate
Copy and Paste in Procreate
Procreate has a couple of tools where you can copy, duplicate, paste, and cut layers. There are also additional features and tips that I share which could also be helpful when using Procreate. The video below provides a quick snapshot of the copy and paste feature.
To access the copy and paste panel, you will need to use a hand gesture. The default hand gesture command to open the copy and paste panel is to have three fingers ready and slide down on the screen. The copy and paste panel will pop up.
If you would like to change the way you access the copy and paste panel, you can go to Preferences and adjust the settings.
Once the panel appears, you can select Copy. Prior to selecting this, ensure you are on the current layer you want to copy. When the Copied Layer is displayed in the top center of the screen, you can then swipe down with three fingers again and select Paste to paste to layer. This feature can also be very useful when you want to copy a previously drawn element in another artwork and paste it into another.
If you want to quickly copy and paste a layer, I recommend two other ways to do this:
The first way would be to select Duplicate from the copy and paste panel. This will automatically duplicate the current selected layer.
The second way is to swipe left of the layer you want to duplicate, and select Duplicate.
Done! You can also select Cut and Cut and Paste to cut and paste layers.
Copy All Tool in Procreate
The Copy All tool in Procreate is a unique feature where you can copy an entire canvas drawing (layers that are currently visible) and paste it in another artwork as a flattened image. This can be useful if you are planning to draw a series and would like to use similar colors or would like to reference the artwork.
I hope this tutorial was helpful in learning more about foundational tools in Procreate. Once you get the hang of foundational tools, you can then learn about advanced tools. All of this would be important to the growth of you becoming a more well-rounded and confident digital artist. You will also learn how to use and leverage these tools effectively and, in turn, draw art that fits your creativity, personality, and style.
Happy creating! What is your favorite Procreate tool? Let me know in the comments below, I would love to know!
